Description
The Strawberry Rasbora is a tiny yet dazzling fish that adds a pop of vibrant red to any nano or planted aquarium. Its petite size and peaceful nature make it an ideal choice for aquarists with smaller setups. Known for its deep red body and subtle dark spots, this species thrives in environments that mimic its natural habitat of slow-moving, heavily vegetated waters in Southeast Asia.
Maximum adult size: 1.5 cm
Temperament: Peaceful, best kept in schools
Difficulty of care: Moderate, requires stable water parameters
Preferred Temperature: 22–28°C
Preferred pH of water: 4.0–7.0
Type of breeding: Egg scatterer
Strawberry Rasboras prefer densely planted tanks with subdued lighting to bring out their best colours. These tiny fish do well in soft, acidic water, and it is crucial to keep them in groups of six or more for them to feel secure. As omnivores, they require a varied diet of micro-pellets, fine flakes, and small live or frozen foods such as daphnia or baby brine shrimp. Breeding is possible in a specialised setup with soft water, plants like java moss for egg-laying, and careful removal of adults after spawning.
